The University of Alabama (UA) REU, Engineering Sensors Systems and Signal Processing for Speech Pathology, is a collaborative research experience between the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the department of Communicative Disorders. This multidisciplinary program runs from May through July and offers research opportunities for 9 students from UA and other institutions across the nation. Students in all areas of engineering, computer science, and related fields are encouraged to apply.  Available research projects will allow participants to work on interdisciplinary problems requiring image analysis, sensor design, algorithm development, and information processing to support research in speech pathology.  Speech language pathology is an applied behavioral science whose scope of practice includes screening, assessment, treatment, and technology/instrumentation related to the areas of fluency, speech production, language, cognition, voice, resonance, feeding and swallowing, and auditory habilitation/rehabilitation.  Details of the available projects, benefits, requirements for eligibility, and available support are online at:
